Seixal Black Sand Beach - Aerial View

Visit Madeira does not print a car-park charge or a count of spaces for the beach, the pools, or the Véu da Noiva viewpoint. None is copied here.

The council parking page prices the town of Porto Moniz, not Seixal: 144 paid spaces, blue lines, 9h to 19h every day, minimum 0,20 €, 0,20 € for 15 minutes, 0,80 € an hour, and about 70% of the spaces in that town free. The contacts on that page include the Junta de Freguesia do Seixal at 291 854 320. The beaches page gives the council switchboard as 291 850 180.

Rodoeste is the operator whose stop sheet is titled for Seixal. The file is SEIXAL.pdf. The header phone is 291 220 148 and the email is rodoeste@rodoeste.pt. The lines named on that sheet are carreiras 6, 7, 139, and 150. No fare is printed. No other operator is named on it.

Carreira 139 is marked valid from 1 March 2021 and was still that file on 7 October 2026. Footnote a: to São Vicente on carreira 6, then carreira 150. Seixal going west: every day, Funchal 07:35 and Seixal 10:25; Monday to Saturday, Funchal 13:30 and Seixal 16:20; Monday to Friday, Funchal 14:10 and Seixal 16:20. Saturday, footnote c, carreira 146 as far as Ribeira Brava and carreira 6 on to São Vicente: Funchal 17:35 and Seixal 20:10. On weekdays the two afternoon buses then end at Achadas da Cruz.

Coming back, carreira 139 prints Seixal at 06:15, 07:05, and 12:25 on weekdays, 07:25 on Saturdays and Sundays, and 14:25 from Monday to Saturday. Footnote b: carreira 150 as far as São Vicente, then carreira 6. No trips on 1 January, Sexta-Feira Santa, Domingo de Páscoa, or 25 and 26 December.

Carreira 150, valid from 21 September 2020, is the São Vicente to Porto Moniz bus. It prints the same westbound Seixal times, 10:25, 16:20, and 20:10, and the return times 07:05 on weekday mornings, 07:25 at weekends, and 14:25 Monday to Saturday. No trips on 25 and 26 December or 1 January. On weekdays the 16:20 ends at Achadas da Cruz.

The stop sheet does not match carreira 139 on the afternoon return. SEIXAL.pdf prints 12:30 and 14:30 where carreira 139 prints 12:25 and 14:25. Open both files before you travel. SIGA’s note of 11/09/2026 sets a school calendar, "10 de Setembro de 2026 a 16 de Dezembro de 2026", and says there are no trips on 25 de Dezembro de 2026. These PDFs do not have a school column, so that note adds no clock.

Visit Madeira calls the black sand Praia do Seixal and also Praia do Porto de Abrigo do Seixal. It formed naturally a few years ago, beside the Porto de Abrigo and the Clube Naval do Seixal. The page lists showers, a support bar, and kayak hire, and bodyboard, canoeing, and stand up paddle through the year. It does not use the name Jardim do Mar. That is a different parish, on the west coast, with its own picture on this site.

The council beaches page says access to Praia do Porto do Seixal is free. The page’s own word is "é livre". It names the bar, the showers, and the kayaks. The pool at the Clube Naval do Seixal is a separate place on the same page: free from 10:00 to 19:00, with loungers, a bar, a shower, toilets, and kayak and diving hire.

Portaria n.º 206/2026, 13 May 2026, names Porto do Seixal, code PTMH9N, as a praia de banhos. Lifeguards are assured there in the season the table prints, "1 de junho a 30 setembro". Clube Naval do Seixal, PTMX3H, and Laje, PTMH9W, have the same dates and a dash in the praia de banhos column. Article 2 says a dash means surveillance was not assured when the portaria was published. 7 October 2026 is after that season. The portaria does not say who is on the sand once it has ended.

Visit Madeira places Poças das Lesmas, the Seixal natural pools, near Praia da Laje, also called Praia da Jamaica. From 2024 there is a lifeguard, and the page prints an entry fee of 2,50 €. It lists toilets, showers, and a support bar. It says large waves can form suddenly, so keep off the most exposed rock. It does not print months or hours for the lifeguard, or who pays nothing.

The council page lists a bar and toilets with a shower, and says the sea can catch people even when the swell looks harmless. It does not print 2,50 €. The portaria does not name Poças das Lesmas. Laje is the nearest row, and that row is not a praia de banhos.

Visit Madeira puts the Véu da Noiva viewpoint on the old road from São Vicente to Seixal. The waterfall is the suspended mouth of the Ribeira de João Delgado. The page prints no fee and no closing time.

Geosite PM04, Miradouro da Véu da Noiva, parish of Seixal, gives 115 m, easy access, and 10 m to the paved road. It says the visit is your own responsibility. The scarp is a natural space of very conditioned use.

The equipment secretariat’s note dated 24-08-2026 says a rockfall partly blocked the Via Expresso beside the Ladeira da Vinha tunnel, in the São Vicente direction. The roads department’s rock climbers found it fit to reopen at the end of that same day. The civil engineering laboratory then started looking for cracks and loose blocks. The note does not announce a fresh closure.

Resolução n.º 848/2026 authorises up to 6.720.000,00 € plus VAT to protect the VE2 slope between the Ladeira da Vinha and João Delgado tunnels, km 3+600 to 3+800, in Seixal. The charges sit in Portaria n.º 426/2026. Contract notice 22815/2026 allows 365 days for the work and takes tenders until 13-10-2026 at 17:00. That is a contract, not a closure. The sea warning that is actually printed is the one for the pools: sudden waves, on Visit Madeira and on the council page. Neither page prints a height that closes the beach.

The picture on this page is the Madeira-Web Beaches Live camera, above the black sand. YouTube lists that stream under Portal Netmadeira. Use it for cloud on the mountains and for white water wrapping the bay before you commit to the tunnels. It is not a lifeguard flag. Poças das Lesmas and Véu da Noiva are not in the frame.

The sets on the sand are the Beachcam picture. Porto Moniz is west on the VE2. The council page writes "5 min" to Chão da Ribeira and names no path. The trail map lists the classified walks. The connections page is for a change of plan.
