Jardim da Serra
Is the swell running onto the pebbles? This is not a learner beach when the sets are lined up.
Look at the water before you go down to the rocks. A sunny Funchal is not this coast.
You see the bay and the pebble shore, not the inside of the club and not the Pala rock roof.
Cloud cover is high, so paths and rock can be wet. Wear shoes with grip and pack a light rain shell.
Positioned high on the southern slopes of Madeira at roughly 820 meters above sea level, this 4K camera looks down across the terraced green hillsides of Jardim da Serra toward the Atlantic coast. In the foreground and middle distance, red-tiled country homes sit among centuries-old stone farming terraces (poios) planted with cherry orchards, chestnut groves, and high-altitude vines. Further down the slope, the terrain opens into the valley of Câmara de Lobos and the distant arc of Funchal Bay, giving viewers an immediate perspective on weather shifts between the interior peaks and the ocean.
Jardim da Serra is famous across the island as Madeira's cherry capital. In spring, white cherry blossoms blanket the upper slopes, followed each June by the lively Festa da Cereja (Cherry Festival), where growers sell freshly picked fruit alongside regional cherry liqueur (ginja). Above the village, mountain roads climb past laurel forest patches toward Boca da Corrida and Boca dos Namorados, two of the most dramatic lookouts into the deep volcanic crater of Curral das Freiras.
Because the camera sits at 820 meters, it serves as an indispensable weather checkpoint for hikers and drivers. Mountain mist frequently gathers along this ridge while the coastal towns below remain in bright sunshine, or an atmospheric temperature inversion leaves the village bathed in clear sky above a blanket of white clouds.

Mountain hiking from Boca da Corrida and PR12
The parish serves as the primary gateway to the high central peaks of Madeira. From the village center, follow the paved road up to Miradouro da Boca da Corrida (1,050 m), where you will find the trailhead for PR12 Caminho Real da Encumeada. This historic 12.5-kilometer royal trail follows a stone-paved path along the southern crest of the central mountain chain, offering sheer vertical lookouts into Curral das Freiras (Nun's Valley) before reaching Boca da Encumeada (1,007 m). You can also hike the shorter path to Miradouro da Boca dos Namorados for sweeping views across the valley floor. Always check this webcam before setting out, as clouds can roll across the 1,000-meter mark within minutes.
