What the PR1 ridge actually feels like
Steps, short tunnels, and a path that does not turn around after Pedra Rija. Look at the Arieiro camera before you start.
·

PR1 is a built path along the ridge between Pico do Arieiro and Pico Ruivo: stone steps, railings, and a few short tunnels. It is not a dirt track you can leave and rejoin. After rain the steps are slick. A headlamp helps in the tunnels. There is no café on the ridge, so water and food come with you.
The Pico do Arieiro camera is the check before you pay for the slot. A clear parking lot can still turn into cloud an hour later, but a gray frame at the start is a gray walk. The finish you can see from below is Achada do Teixeira.
The one-way rule and the car are a separate problem, covered in the PR1 car note. Book the walk on SIMplifica. The trails directory names the route. It does not describe the steps.
