Pico Ruivo from Achada do Teixeira
The usual walk to the island high point starts at Achada, not at the Arieiro parking lot. Open that camera first.
·

Pico Ruivo is the high point of Madeira, 1,862 meters. Most people who are not crossing from Arieiro start at Achada do Teixeira and walk up a built path. That approach is shorter than PR1 and it returns to the same parking lot.
The picture to open is the Achada do Teixeira camera. It shows the shelter and the start, not the summit itself. If that frame is in cloud, the summit will be in cloud. The Pico do Arieiro camera is the other end of the ridge, useful only if you are doing the crossing described in the PR1 car note.
It is colder and windier than Funchal. The path can be wet when the coast is dry. Book a classified trail on SIMplifica when the portal asks for it. The route name sits in the trails directory.
